Artwork & Exhibits

Artwork, display at Bay West, Iron Mountain, MI hosts shows by the Art Department and students during the school year.

I attended an art exhibit (above 2 photos) in 7.2015 at the John Michael Kohler Art Center, Sheboygan.

The Art Center is from the Kohler family, who is the originator of Kohler Design Co., Sheboygan (see links below).

The art show was several exhibits which included modern day sustainability themes, fashion displays, European artistry, a Japanese Kimono set, and the last one we viewed (shown bottom photo above - lower right frame) was by artist Anna Zemankova  (1900 - 1986) depicting her work that was hand stitched in linen fabric. Some of the artworks were floor to ceiling pieces that were exquisite in design and workmanship.

Kohler Exhibit

February 15 - August 30, 2015

The artwork of both artists Sandra Sheehy, UK and Anna Zemánková (1908 - 1986) draws inspiration from plant life and garden scenery.

Sheehy creates felted wall pieces as well as delicate sculptures reminiscent of cocoons from chicken wire, fabric, and paper, and later encrusts with fabric, stitching, beads, sequins, and shells.

Anna Zemánková’s embroidery on paper suggest botanical illustrations and reveal nature’s more mystical side.

Both artists add elements of spontaneity, allowing the image of the outdoor world to unfold before the viewer. Shown together, their works disclose intangible and spiritual aspects of the plant world.
